How Do You Repair A Concrete Foundation?

Procedure in Steps
- Begin by brushing away any dust and loose concrete using a strong scrub brush. To remove larger crumbling pieces, use a chisel, hammer, or rotary hammer with a chisel point.
Only cracked concrete should be removed. You do not wish to remove undamaged concrete. Then, using a garden hose and scrub brush, remove any dust or loose particles.
Allow the concrete to cure for 24 hours before proceeding to the next stage.
- Now that you’ve waited 24 hours, you want to gently dampen the concrete. You may apply it using a sponge, brush, or spray bottle. Remember that you want the concrete to be moist, not soaked.
- Before using your patching material, you should use a cement paint or an adhesive primer. This enables the patching material to adhere to the old concrete.
To manufacture cement paint, combine Portland cement and cold, clean water until it has the consistency of latex paint.
Using a medium or big paintbrush, apply the paint on the old concrete.
- Apply your patching material as soon as you’ve finished applying your cement paint to your concrete.
A ready-mixed concrete patching compound should be used as your patching material. You don’t want to use patching material to cover bigger holes.
You shouldn’t have to worry about the sun if you’re working in your basement, but if you’re working outside, consider working in the shade or while the sun is down.
- After two hours, apply a second coat of patching substance. You should ensure that your walls are smooth and level. Finally, leave the patching material to cure for 30 minutes in the open.
- Finally, cover the newly mended concrete with a plastic sheet for two days, softly sprinkling the area with water from a garden hose. Remove the tarp once the concrete has completely hardened, and you’re finished!
