How Do You Trim An Arched Window?
Arched windows can add a lot of character to a room, but they can be a bit of a challenge to trim. Here are a few tips for trimming an arched window:
1. First, measure the width of the arch and the height of the arch.
This will help you determine the size of the trim pieces you will need. Cut the trim using a miter saw or a circular saw. You may also need to add a piece of wood to cover the remaining gap in the wood at the bottom of the window, which is called keeling.
Apply glazing compound to all sides of your window before attaching your trim. This will help prevent paint from chipping when you install it on your window frames and sills.
2. Determine the angle of the arch and the angle of the trim.
This will help you determine the angle of the trim pieces you will need. If the angle of your windows is 90 degrees, you will need to cut the trim to a 45-degree angle.
If you have an existing window frame, determine whether or not it’s a casement window or a double-hung window. After measuring the frame you’ll need to adjust the chair rail and sill in order to get your trim to fit properly. Measure out the space you’ll need for your new piece of window trim on top of your existing frame.
3. Draw a line along the angle of the arch

Cut your trim to the exact measurements on your line. Prepare the trim you are installing by sanding the surface of the trim and removing built-in molding or other obstacles that may prevent it from fitting properly.
Attach the first piece of window trim to the overhang of your windows with wire brads or nails. Drill holes in the window frame so you can pass through your wire brads, then fasten them around one another using fasteners like small drill bits and screws.
4. Use a jigsaw or a saw to cut the trim pieces along the line you drew in step 3.
A few pieces may be missing from your cut, but you can trim the remaining pieces along the lines that you drew in step 3. Cut any remaining pieces for the trim using a circular saw. You should not need many, since only a very small piece of window trim will be needed to cover the bottom of your windows.
All that is left is to install your curtain rod on top of your window and then secure it to the backside of your windows with wood screws.
5. Finally, use a screwdriver to attach the trim pieces to the window frame.
You can cut the excess trim off of your window frame after installing your trim around the entire perimeter of your room. Attach the remaining pieces of trim to the sides and top or bottom of your windows using nails, screws, or brads.
