Why Samsung Fridge Leaking Water into Crisper & How to Fix

What Causes My Samsung Refrigerator to Leak Water?

Samsung refrigerators commonly leak for a variety of reasons. Whatever the source of the leak is, the root cause is usually a clogged defrost drain line, a defective water entry valve, or a malfunctioning water filter.

These underlying causes will result in a variety of symptoms, such as water on the floor, at the water dispenser, beneath the crisper, or even at the water filter.

Where Is the Leak Coming from?

Many times, a pool of water (or one that has frozen into a sheet of ice) might be attributable to condensation or an unnoticed spill.

Water is most commonly found in the bottom of the compartment, such as beneath the vegetable or crisper drawers. Leaks can occur outside of the refrigerator, or you could have a leaking auto fill water pitcher.

There are actions to take depending on where the leak is coming from to discover the source and perhaps prevent it from happening again.

  1. Leaks from the Autofill water pitcher
  2. Leaks from the refrigerator’s water filter
  3. Leaks from the dispenser, under the drawers, under the fridge, or other areas
  4. A sheet of ice forms in the refrigerator
  5. Leaks from the back wall of the refrigerator

Why Is There Water in The Crisper Drawer of My Samsung Fridge?

If you discover water in your crisper drawers or the refrigerator leaking on the floor, it’s most likely due to a clogged defrost drain. The automated defrost mechanism of the refrigerator features a drain tube that empties surplus water into the drain pan. The water usually evaporates after it’s in the pan.

Reasons Why Your Samsung Refrigerator Is Leaking Water

Below are the most common reasons why your Samsung refrigerator is leaking water.

1. Refrigerator Is Not Level

One reason for a Samsung refrigerator leaking water is improper leveling. The water level in the Samsung refrigerator liquid line should be between 1/3 and 1/2 inch below the crispers. The water level in the Samsung refrigerator ice maker should be approximately 1 inch below or on top of the ice maker container.

-If this is not done, then the water will have to make its way up between the refrigerator and where it is used to fill your Samsung refrigerator with cold items. This causes corrosion on other parts of your Samsung refrigerator which can cause leaks. So, after a while water will start to leak from your Samsung refrigerator.

2. Top and Bottom Gasket Are Not Properly in Place

Another reason why your Samsung refrigerator is leaking water is due to the top and bottom gasket being improperly in place.

The top and bottom gasket is used to prevent any leaks by keeping the Samsung refrigerator water lines together. If this gasket falls out of place, then you will start seeing leaks coming from your Samsung refrigerator.

So, we suggest that you make it a habit to check the top and bottom gasket and make sure they are properly secured before placing any food or drink in the Samsung refrigerator.

3. Condensation Is Not Being Properly Absorbed

A third reason why your Samsung refrigerator is leaking water is that there is condensation that is not being properly absorbed.

The condensation coming from the inside of your Samsung refrigerator should be absorbed by an evaporator coil on the back of your Samsung refrigerator wall.

If this evaporator coil is not getting enough water to absorb condensation, then water will start to leak from your Samsung refrigerator.

And this can cause corrosion on other parts of your Samsung refrigerator which can cause leaks. So after while water will start to leak from your Samsung refrigerator.

4. Ice Maker Is Not Making Enough Ice

Another reason why your Samsung refrigerator is leaking water is that the ice maker is not making enough ice. The average ice maker should make about two pounds of ice each day.

If there is a problem, you will start to see leaks coming from your Samsung refrigerator especially if it is not being used as much as it should be.

5. The Water Line Is Leaking from The Bottom Of The Refrigerator Wall

Another reason why your Samsung refrigerator is leaking water is because the toilet water line is leaking from the bottom of the wall.

This can cause corrosion on other parts of your Samsung refrigerator which can cause leaks. So after a while water will start to leak from your Samsung refrigerator.

6. Clogged Refrigerator Defrost Drain

A common problem for leaking water from your Samsung refrigerator is because the refrigerator defrost drain line is clogged.

A clogged refrigerator defrost drain line will cause corrosion on other parts of your Samsung refrigerator which can cause leaks. So after a while water will start to leak from your Samsung refrigerator.

Common Solutions for Samsung Refrigerator Leaking Water

Drain Pan

Self-defrosting refrigerators include a drain pan. The drain pan gathers the water that evaporator coils melt. The condenser fan blows heated air from the condenser coils across the top of the drain pan to evaporate the water in it. The drain pan does not need to be emptied because the condenser fan evaporates the water from it. If the drain pan is cracked, water will leak while the defrost cycle is operating. Examine the drain pan for cracks. Replace the drain pan if it is cracked.

Assembly Of a Water Tank

Examine the water tank assembly for leakage. Be mindful that the leak may be minor and difficult to detect. Replace the water tank if you notice a leak. Do not attempt to repair the water tank—glue will not adhere correctly to the tank’s plastic.

Clogged Or Frozen Drain Defrost

If the defrost drain becomes clogged, water will overflow the drain trough and drip to the compartment’s bottom. This water may eventually seep through the floor. Examine the defrost drain to see whether it is clogged or frozen. Thaw the ice if the defrost drain is frozen. Additionally, flush the drain with hot water to ensure that it is clean.

Container For Water Filter

Cracks in the water filter housing should be looked for. If you find any fractures in the water filter housing, replace it.

The water filter head could be damaged, or the seal could be torn or missing. Cracks in the water filter housing should be looked for. Replace the water filter housing if you see any cracks.

Filter for Water

The water filter may not be correctly installed on the filter housing. Water may flow from the filter if it is not correctly installed. Remove and reapply the filter to guarantee correct installation.

Inlet Valve for Water

The water inlet valve opens, allowing water to flow to the dispenser and icemaker. Water will leak from the water inlet valve if it is damaged or has a loose fitting. Examine the water inlet valve for cracks and ensure that it is securely fastened to the water supply line.
