13 Different Types of Cement Used in Construction
13 Different Types of Cement
We discuss the 13 different types of cement that are commonly used.
These are 13 different types of cement.
- Ordinary Portland Cement
- Portland Pozzolana Cement.
- Rapid Hardening Cement
- Quick Setting Cement,
- Low Heat Cement.
- Sulphate Resisting Cement
- Blast Furnace Slag Cement
- High Alumina Cement
- White Cement
- Colored Cement.
- Air Entraining Cement
- Expansive Cement
- Hydrographic Cement
These are the 13 types of cements discussed below
Ordinary Portland Cement.
This is the normal or regular assessment which we use.
This is the most consumer material like it is around 3.8 million cubic meters per year, and it is suitable for all types of construction.
Portland Pozzolana Cement.
This is prepared by grinding the pasta, Lonnie clinker, or the volcanic ash with the normal Portland Cement.
We get this Portland Pozzolana cement, and this is very resistant to chemical attacks. It is used in dam construction, bridges, piers, or underlying water structures or sewage works well, which involves huge concrete works. We use Pozzolana, and it is also good for underwater concreting.
Rapid Hardening Cement.
It is almost similar to the ordinary Portland Cement. It is almost like OPC, but the specialty of this rapid hardening cement detains high strength in the early days itself like it maintains the seven-day strength within three days. That is the advantage of rapid hardening cement.
And this is because it has high calcium silicate content and finer grinding property. So it will obtain initial strength within three years itself so you can remove the farm work e early, which will reduce the construction cost. This kind of cement is used in prefabricated concrete construction and road works.
Quick Settling Cement.
The Quick Settling cement first, where is in rapid hardening cement, gains strength quickly. Formwork in both cases can be removed quickly.
With Quick Settling cement, the gain of strength is similar to the ordinary Portland Cement. Quick settings settle earlier, and this is used in where you have to do concreting in static or running water.
Low Heat Cement.
It produces slow heat off hydration. This type of cement is very much used in the dam’s construction as it will produce normal cracks.
This is prepared by maintaining precaution, illuminate less than 6%, and increasing the proportion of calcium dye sulfide.
This is how low heat cement is prepared, and this is very less reactive, and the initial setting time of this low heat cement is a little more than the normal OPC.
Sulfate Resisting Cement.
The cement is used when there are severe self-attacks on the concrete. In some places like a foundation where there is high soil sulphate content in the soil, we should use Sulphate Resisting cement,
Then we have to reduce these agents in the segment; we can prepare sulfate resisting cement. And this is mainly used in the foundations of a building exposed to severe sulphate like culverts, retaining walls, and siphons…
Blast furnace slag Cement
Blast furnace Slag Cement is obtained by grinding the clinkers with about 60% of the slag, which resembles a Portland cement’s properties more or less.
This type of cement is used for less economic work.
White Cement
When your cement is free from iron oxide, it will be in the color of white, and using this weight meant most of you know it is very much used in decorator works and also it is used in florins facing slaps, ornamental concrete products, part off guidance and swimming pools.
This is the white cement when it is free from the iron oxide.
High Aluminous Cement.
It is obtained by melting the mixture of bauxite and line and grinding with the clinker.
And it is also a rapid hardening cement, but its initial and finding second times are 3.5 and 5 hours, respectively, and it is very workable. It is used in concrete, which is subjected to high temperatures, frost, and aesthetic action. There we use high alumina cement.
Colored Cement
By mixing a few mineral pigments, we can get the colored cement. This is used in floors as a decorator.
Air Entraining cement
By adding some agents, such as resins, glues, and sodium salts, they are weak during the grinding of the clinker; the Air Entraining Cement is produced.
This type is very much used when you have to create insulation or when it is; there is a lost a lot of frost action.
This cement will have air bubbles within it, so it will stop the frosting action. This also improves workability, and it needs a smaller water-cement ratio.
Expansive Cement.
This is an extraordinary type of cement. It expands with time, but it does not shrink after hardening and
And this is mainly used in grouting anchor bolts and prestressed concrete ducts.
Hydrographic Cement
This is water repelling cement. The water-repelling chemicals are added so that it will repel water during monsoons and drains.
It’s almost hydrophobic. And it is mainly used in water structures such as dams, water tanks, wastewater, retaining structures, etcetera.
So, it prevents the rusting of iron.
