How Do You Attach A Slatwall To A Concrete Wall?
A slat wall is a wall covered with long horizontal channels that go over the whole surface. The panels are designed to accommodate racks or a variety of hooks for hanging or displaying objects.
Slat wall installation into concrete walls, as opposed to wood or drywall, necessitates a few more processes.
Panels come in conventional sizes but may be readily cut to any length of wall requested using handsaws or power saws.
Step 1
Make a mark with the tape measure from the floor up the wall to the intended placement of the lowest piece of slat wall.
Make a second mark approximately 10 feet along the wall with another similar height line.
Draw a chalk line on the wall to provide a straight edge to position the first panel.
Step 2
Place the first panel against the concrete wall with the bottom edge completely aligned with the chalk line.
Allow assistance to hold the panel in place while you check it with a level and adjust as needed.
Make pencil markings through the pre-drilled mounting holes in the panel’s slats. Remove the panel and, if necessary, darken the markings.
Step 3
Drill holes at each mounting hole mark using a masonry bit of the right size.
Fill the holes with concrete glue and install concrete anchors by softly striking them into the concrete with a hammer.
Step 4
Using a putty knife, spread liquid wall glue evenly across the back of the slat wall panel.
Replace the panel on the wall, matching the mounting holes with the concrete drilled holes. Allow the assistant to hold and push the panel in place for a few seconds to ensure a strong binding.
Step 5
Insert slat wall screws into the concrete anchors through the mounting holes. Tighten the screws with a screwdriver until the panel is securely fastened to the wall.
Step 6
Place the bottom groove of the second panel over the top of the previous panel, ensuring that it is square to the lower piece. Mark the location of the mounting holes, remove the panel, drill holes, insert anchors, and attach the second panel similar to the first.
Step 7
Rep the installation instructions for each additional slat wall component until they are all in place. Allow the panels to cure overnight to ensure that the glue is dry.
Can You Put Shelves On The Concrete Walls?
Yes, you can install shelves on a concrete wall if you first treat the surface. The most effective way to attach shelves to a concrete wall is by using anchors. Anchors are easy to install, sturdy and reliable.
If you need level shelf brackets for your wall, it’s better to go for French cleats instead of screw-in hooks or nails. You may attach cleat brackets on the wall with glue and screws or by drilling them in place.
Once the brackets are in place, prepare your shelves. Most hardware stores sell pre-cut shelf boards with laminate surfaces that are already cut.
Make your shelves out of plywood, planking, or sheathing. In most circumstances, your shelf board will need to be cut at least for length, if not also for breadth.
Place a shelf board across the brackets, level with the wall, and even the edge lines on both sides.
Check the length of the shelf for levelness and add shims if needed. Once you’re happy with the shelf configuration, use an electric screwdriver to drill mounting screws through the brackets’ underside and into the shelf board’s bottom.
Repeat this technique for each bracket and shelf. You may start rearranging your storage area right away when you’re finished.
