What Are The Sizes Of The Pavers?

Concrete pavers are excellent because they come in a number of sizes, ranging from 4″ paver stones to 36″ slabs. They come in rectangle, square, and geometric shapes as well.

All of this allows you to express your creative side via your outdoor patio projects – and although the variety can be motivating, it can also be overwhelming.

When it comes to paving your driveway, walkway, or patio, you’ll want to choose the right size pavers for the specific job.

The most common clay pairing brick is usually sized 4 by 8 inches or 10 by 20 centimeters. There is also the brick face at 3 by 7 inches or 8 by 18 centimeters and 3 ⅝ by 7 ⅝ inches or 9 by 19 centimeters.

When choosing your pavers, make sure to account for the height of your project, the type of surface it will be on, and the size and shape of the pavers you want.

Can You Lay Pavers On Just Sand?

Yes, laying pavers on a sand basis is similar to laying them on soil, except you’ll need to add a layer of coarse sand, road base, or polymeric sand first.

Rake the sand to smooth it out, and use a plate crusher to solidify the sand base for a sturdy, secure foundation. Lay out your pavers in the same pattern you would for a soil basis.

Crushed rock or coarse, washed river sand is the ideal sand to put between pavers. Pour the sand onto the paved surface and brush it into the spaces between the pavers. Take the time to complete a thorough job for long-term results.

Moisten the pavers and keep adding sand until all gaps are filled, then brush away the excess.

Can I Use Sand As A Base For Pavers?

Yes, concrete sand is the best to use when creating a foundation for a concrete paver project. It is exceptionally gritty sand, which provides for homogeneous compacting and good water drainage.

Concrete sand will raise slightly into the joints when leveling pavers, securing them in place. This also prevents water from seeping beneath the pavers and lifting them. Polymeric sand is also an excellent choice for building a foundation for the installation.

Any sand with angular edges and a particle size of 1/8 inch diameter is ideal. Sand permits the ground to be flexible and prevents the pavers from breaking or sinking under pressure if the earth moves. If you want sand, ensure the entire area is compacted and levelled with a plate compactor.

How Do I Install Sand Between Pavers & In Paver Joints?

Installing pavers requires a little effort and patience. The most important thing is to prepare the ground properly. You’ll need to remove any grass, weeds, and debris that occupy your desired patio or driveway location.

If you have a tree on your property, assess its root system to see if you need to move it in order to complete the paving project.

Adding sand between pavers is the last step of the installation process. Pour some coarse sand or polymeric sand over dried pavers and brush it into the paver joints with a push-broom.

Check that the sand is suitably filling all the joints and sweep until all the joints are full of sand. After filling the joints, sweep any remaining polymeric sand on top of the pavers; otherwise, it will adhere to them when wet.

Allow the sand to settle in the joints for 24 hours before adding more sand if any joints aren’t completely filled in.

Finally, water must be introduced to polymeric sand in order for it to be activated. For about 10 minutes, spray or sprinkle water on the polymeric sand between pavers to get it wet but not so wet that it washes away. This completes the procedure.
