What Is A Window Film?

Window film is a thin laminate film that can be applied to the inside or outside of glass surfaces in automobiles and boats, as well as the inside or outside of the glass in homes and buildings.

Because of its clarity, tensile strength, dimensional stability, and ability to accept a variety of surface-applied or embedded treatments, it is typically made of polyethylene terephthalate (PET), a thermoplastic polymer resin of the polyester family.

Window Film is a coating applied to one or more exterior window surfaces of a building, vehicle, or airplane. Window film products can be classified according to their intended use as follows:

  1. Shade-resistant films are used primarily on commercial and institutional buildings to reduce solar heat gain and glare.
  2. Energy-efficient films reduce heat gain from the sun by reflecting solar radiation back into space and also from the interior of buildings by decreasing the need for air conditioning.
  3. Privacy films help mask unwanted views or sounds from outside into a private area. A single privacy film can also reduce glare by reducing direct sunlight on interior windows.
  4. Sunscreen films are used to protect the interior and exterior surfaces of buildings from ultraviolet (UV) radiation, which is the major cause of skin cancers. Aerial sunscreens are transparent films used for aircraft windows.

Backing films are used to protect the surface of window glass from scratching or haloing when fastening the film itself to the glass with, for example, double-sided tape. Window films can be manufactured as monolayers, consisting of only one layer of material applied to the glass.

They can also be manufactured in multiple layers in order to provide different properties such as performance and aesthetics.

Does Window Film Provide Privacy At Night?

Yes. At night, the window film will block approximately 95% of the light, providing you with a high level of privacy. During the day, any ambient light will reflect off the surface of the mirror film, making it impossible to see inside.

Also, most window films can be applied to the inside of the glass and still provide privacy. Window film brings many benefits to any window, including automotive, residential and commercial. Some of the more significant ones include:

Lower energy costs due to better insulating properties, infrared heat reduction, and glare control. Heightened sense of safety through added privacy. Increased durability of windows with less chance of breakage or deterioration.

Increased comfort as light is controlled and tempered throughout your building or vehicle. Increased viewing pleasure as natural lighting is preserved while today’s harsh artificial light is excluded. A broader range of styles – from frosted to clear with different levels of tinting – means you can choose the coating that best suits your needs.

Window Film doesn’t just block heat, it can also reduce cooling costs. Window Film effectively blocks 90% of the sun’s heat, keeping interior temperatures up to 20 degrees lower on a hot summer day. In the winter, it reduces fading by blocking out damaging UV rays and is an excellent insulator.

Window film can keep your interior cooler during the summer and warmer in the winter. The lower temperatures inside a vehicle or building make heating and air-conditioning systems more efficient.

Window Film is a tinted laminated material that provides shade, privacy, security, and solar heat control to a large variety of glass applications. It is typically made of polyester or vinyl but may also be made of alternative materials such as polyvinyl butyral (PVB), acrylic, or polycarbonate.

Does One Way Window Film Work At Night?

No. The majority of one-way vision films can only provide privacy during the day. If the inside is illuminated at night, the films become see-through, necessitating the use of blinds or curtains. Window film brings many benefits to any window, including automotive, residential and commercial.

Window film can be made to order according to your preferences: low-tint color films or multi-use films that also provide privacy, control heat and glare or act as a sun protection film. Some films are also made to order in custom sizes for building facades and vehicle applications.
